Lacy's Future

When Waggytail Rescue saved Lacy, she had been sadly neglected by her former owners. But you would never know this with her sweet and loving personality! She is friendly to everyone she meets, and likes nothing better than to sit in your lap while you pet her. She also loves to play with her foster brothers and sisters (both 4-legged and 2-legged!) and go on walks. While Lacy's personality didn't show the effects of her past neglect, her little body did. Lacy had not been spayed, and probably as a result of this, developed lumps on her mammary glands. Waggytail had her spayed, and the lumps removed and analyzed by our vet. Happily, these lumps were completely benign and cancer-free! Lacy's health will in no way be affected by these in the future, especially as she has been getting tender loving care in her foster home, along with healthy food and top-notch medical attention. She even has sparkly white teeth now, thanks to a professional dental cleaning!

Lacy's left eye had also developed a problem when her care was neglected. She had developed Grade 2 Glaucoma in that eye. Waggytail brought Lacy to a Veterinary Ophthalmologist for repeated visits, and tried to save her eye with expensive drops. Sweet little Lacy never complained or even moved while her eye was being examined! However, after re-evaluating, Lacy's Doctors decided the best thing to do would be to surgically remove her left eye. Her vision had been impaired in that eye already, and one-eyed dogs function just as well as those with two. As you probably know, dogs' other senses (smell, hearing) are much stronger than those of humans. Lacy will not notice her missing eye much, except for feeling a relief from pain and discomfort.

Lacy's health and future are now as bright and happy as her personality! She has been cleared of any outstanding issues by her expert veterinary team, and has many years left to give a new owner as a loving companion. Whoever adopts Lacy will be rewarded with the most bountiful unconditional love they could ever imagine!

Waggytail Rescue is happy to have found Lacy and excited to match this amazing little girl with a new loving owner. We don't regret one penny that we have spent in making Lacy healthy, and ensuring her a happy future. However, we do want to continue to save more deserving dogs like Lacy. Lacy's surgery, specialist visits and medication costs at this point total more than $2,500. We know times are difficult, but any donation amount, no matter how small, will help us to rescue and help more wonderful pets like beautiful Lacy. New Lacy Pix!

A Waggytail volunteer here: I was privileged to bring Miss Lacy to her ophthalmologist appointments. She was a perfect little angel the whole time, not complaining or moving as her eye was examined and prodded, which I'm sure caused her some discomfort. We are hoping to raise some funds to help with Lacy's surgery soon, because although she is on eye drops for the pain and inflammation, it must be uncomfortable for her.

Waggytail
has already spent over $1800 on Lacy's veterinary care before her eye surgery. Lacy had a skin condition that was treated and mammary tumors that were removed, in addition to her eye doctor visits and medicines. A note for all pet lovers: if Lacy's previous owner had responsibly spayed her, she would probably not have developed these mammary tumors! We were very happy to learn that she was cancer-free, but were informed by her medical team that she should have an additional surgery to remove her eye. We expect the cost of this surgery to be upwards of $1000. While we don't mind spending the money on our wonderful Lacy, it would be great to get some help for her medical bills so that we can continue to rescue and find new homes for other deserving pets like her.

And she is such a sweetie-pie! Her foster mom calls her "the ultimate lap dog". She will paw at your hand and duck her head under your palm to get you to pat her. She has many years left to give someone as a loving companion. Please, if you can help our Lacy out, donate directly to Paypal at our website, Waggytail Rescue, or mail your donation to the following address:

All About the Lovely Lacy's Webpage!

Lacy is an extremely special girl -- so special she has her own webpage!

Lacy is a TOTALLY SWEET 8 year old, 9.8 pound poodle mix with a soul of gold!

Through absolutely no fault of her own, Lacy found herself in the pound several months ago. Luckily, Waggytail Rescue and its network of loving foster home swas able to take Lacy in and give her a new start.

Lacy has returned this gift of love many times over, showing so much sweetness and a wonderful "person"-ality! Lacy gets along great with everyone she meets, including cats and children. Lacy is great on the leash, is housetrained and up-to-date on her shots.

Waggytail Resuce has learned that Lacy has developed glaucoma. We have taken her to an opthamologist who has diagnosed it as grade 2. For several weeks, Lacy has been on an expensive ($80/bottle) eye drop treatment, which she takes 3 times per day.

At this point, Waggytail's team of veterinary specialists has recommended that Lacy have one of her eyes removed so that it does not cause her pain. This will be a very expensive procedure and Waggytail Rescue is looking for ANY small donation that will help Lacy and help our organization to pay for her care.

Please stay tuned to this blog for updates on the LOVELY LACY.
